What is it?
CODEP Auditing is an advanced audit logging framework that is capable of logging several different types of audit events out-of-the-box and can easily be extended with custom event types. Events are stored in a persistent search engine making advanced querying efficient. With the help of the Auditing GUI, a privileged user can access the audit log in a controlled manner and can run sophisticated reports on the data. Filtering is possible not only by time-frame, but also by target user, event type or severity level.
Why do we use it?
We think logging is important because in case of issues or customer complaints it proves to be an invaluable source of information. Besides lower level logging whose intended audience is mainly the developers of the application, we also employ extensive audit logging to give more insight in to the working of our applications.
How can you benefit from using it?
An audit log can be used to automatically track every action undertaken by users in your application. It can record what time a user logged on, which files they opened, what they changed and so on. It is useful in providing a better customer service experience, but it can also be used as proof if an employee is not using the system as they are supposed to. In certain scenarios it might be a legal requirement for you to implement an audit log.
